Strategic Shareholder
Nordea Bank AB has been the strategic shareholder of Nordea Bank Poland since 1999. Nordea is the leading financial services group in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region. We are making it possible for our customers to reach their goals by providing a wide range of products, services and solutions within banking, asset management and insurance. Nordea has around 10 million customers and is considered to be a leading netbanking position with 6.3 million e-customers. In Poland, Nordea is represented by Nordea Bank Polska S.A. (Nordea Bank Poland), Nordea Polska Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń na Życie S.A., Nordea Powszechne Towarzystwo Emerytalne and Nordea Finance Polska S.A. In 2010 a new operational center was opened in Łódź, under the name Nordea Operation Centre.
Beginnings
Nordea Bank Polska SA started to operate as Bank Komunalny SA in Gdynia in September 1992. On 1 September 1999, Nordea, the biggest Nordic financial services group, became the main strategic shareholder of the Bank. The Bank has been officially operating in Poland under the brand of Nordea since the merger with BWP-Unibank S.A in 2001. In October 2002 Nordea finalised the purchase of a majority shareholding in LG Petro Bank S.A and completed the legal merger with LG Petro Bank S.A. in June 2003. Nordea Bank Polska SA is a pioneer in many fields. Since 2001, Nordea Bank Poland has been offering an e-banking system to its individual as well as corporate customers. In 2005, Nordea started marketing shares in funds registered in Luxembourg (Nordea 1, SICAV), and was the first bank in Poland to do so. In 2006, Nordea Bank Poland was among the first banks in Poland to introduce electronic signature, which ensures security of transactions and authenticates the customer in the web. In 2007 Nordea adapted its e-banking system to the needs of the blind and amblyopic customers, which none European bank had done before. Nordea Bank has received numerous prizes and honourable mentions for its flexible, comprehensive and friendly approach to customer needs. The security and functionality of the e-banking system is confirmed by trade ranking lists as well as by independent institutions. Nordea’s banking products, credit cards and personal accounts have also been highly appreciated and distinguished for modern and economical solutions. In 2011, the “Rzeczpospolita” daily found Nordea to be the best commercial bank in recognition of the bank’s dynamic growth and a major increase in its total assets. In the same year “Gazeta Bankowa” awarded Nordea the first prize in “Best Banks 2011” competition, in the category of big banks.
Nordea Bank Poland
Nordea Bank is among the leading Polish banks. The bank consequently reinforces its position as a bank of Nordic pedigree. Currently Nordea Bank Polska has about 600,000 customers, almost a half of whom use Netbank, the electronic banking system. Striving to anticipate its customers’ needs, the banks has launched a mobile banking facility, which is a “light” version of the Netbank electronic banking system, optimized for running on portable devices. With such an array of products as mortgages, Spektrum personal account offering free of charge access to ATMs or eFirma packages, Nordea one of the leaders of retail banking. Pursuing its development strategy, Nordea bank has expanded its retail network in Poland to 209 branches. Trust and good relationships lie at the foundation of all Nordea’s activities, thanks to which the bank is more and more widely appreciated by customers.
