Nordea Bank Awarded in the Best Banks 2010 Competition

Nordea Bank was the runner up in the eighteenth edition of the competition organized by the Gazeta Bankowa monthly titled “Best Banks 2010” in the category of “Big Banks”. This year awards were given in four categories.
During the competition, the focus was on the dynamics, the structure of the credit portfolio and efficiency of banks. The differences between the top three in the category of “Big Banks” were negligible. The third place was taken by Bank Zachodni WBK. The award for Nordea Bank was handed by the editor-in-chief of Gazet Bankowa and was received by Vice President Agnieszka Domaradzka.
“I am very happy about that prestigious distinction. In 2009, our bank achieved very good financial results. While the economic slowdown lingered, we considerably increased out balance sheet total as well as the volume of lending to corporate and household customers. Our profits are growing consistently in spite of the weak economic climate and at the same time we are investing in the development of our branch network. Nordea Bank Polska also maintains a very good quality of the credit portfolio, with the loan loss ratio below 1 per cent.” , said Agnieszka Domaradzka.
The winner of the Best Banks 2010 Competition was PKO Bank Polski. The first place in the category of “Small and Medium-Sized Banks” was taken by Bank Polskiej Spółdzielczości, whereas Bank Spółdzielczy w Oławie came on the top of the “Cooperative Banks” category. This year, the organizers added a new competition category: “The Best Cooperative Savings and Credit Society (SKOK) 2010” and the winner here was SKOK im. F. Stefczyka.
“2009 was not like any other year for the banking sector in Poland and globally, which is confirmed by the results of this years ranking. It was not a period of dynamic growth but a time which banks mostly devoted to restructuring and reorganization.” said Łukasz Bystrzyński, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in charge of the services for the financial sector.
The Gala of the Gazeta Bankowa took place on June 17 in Galeria Freta in Warsaw’s New Town. It was attended by the CEOs, members of the management teams and directors of the largest financial institutions, organizations and businesses. This year, the “Best Banks 2010” competition was based on an updated procedure and the expert partner was the PricewaterhouseCoopers consultancy firm.
